Services
The Center aims at providing technical and financial interventions to the key stakeholders within the Minerals and Mining Sector of Ghana to improve capacity and knowledge toward sustainable development.
Our Services
We seek to promote sustainable livelihoods, particularly for women and young people in mining communities across Africa.
Skill Training and Awareness Creation
This is intended to run from the incorporation of the Center. ACMMSD will run various training sessions with various stakeholders at the local, regional, and national levels. This is to improve coordination among the stakeholders.
At the local level, the Center as part of its objectives will run various community clinics providing a holistic education on the issues arising from small-scale mining and galamsey. The clinics will focus on creating awareness and educating the community members on the laws and policies related to mining as well as the agencies responsible for mining activities.
The Center will further sensitize the district assemblies, traditional leaders, and other relevant local agencies on the laws on mining while creating a harmonious system within which these agencies can communicate seamlessly to gather reports and data on mining.
Additionally, the Center will advocate for funding for these agencies in order to run these programs and systems effectively.
There shall be quarterly updates to the relevant ministries and stakeholders at the regional and national levels.
Vocational Training
The Center as part of fulfilling its strategy and objective will be focused on empowering the indigenes of mining areas with vocational skills as alternative livelihood programs. One of the main problems with mining areas is the lack of job opportunities and the associated challenges with education in these areas.
Part of the strategy of the Center will be to work with other NGOs and relevant organizations and stakeholders in providing vocational education to the indigenes of mining areas.
Legal Remedies
In fighting galamsey and enforcing the laws related to mining, the Center shall seek to collaborate with law firms and other organizations to provide legal training for identified groups within the small-scale mining subsector.
The collaboration shall be with other law firms with expertise in the environmental and mining industry in seeking legal remedies for affected communities.
